LEAP Africa is an exciting philanthropic organization that has recently come into the spotlight for its efforts in Africa. Their goal is reflected in their name, which stands for “Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability, and Professionalism.” LEAP’s primary aim is to encourage entrepreneurship and leadership in various communities throughout Africa. Their main focus is in the country of Nigeria, though there are a few outreach programs in other parts of Africa.

The organization hosts a variety of programs and classes for people in Africa. They mostly work with younger people through schools and after-school programs. However, they also have some support for older entrepreneurs too. LEAP Africa aims to help people of all genders and social classes, but they do have some targeted programs that directly address the challenges women, and impoverished people face.

Most of LEAP Africa’s work is done in the classroom. They send people in to run programs, and they also train teachers to share the LEAP mindset with their students. In addition to the programs they offer at public schools, they have an institute where interested people can come to learn. People who want to improve their leadership skills have the opportunity to visit various LEAP Africa workshops where they can work to improve things like workplace performance and self-leadership.

LEAP Africa collaborates with other organizations like the Bank of Industry and Technoserve to provide people with access to education and technology.  Their annual Social Innovators Programme and Awards is a fellowship that motivates various young innovators. People can present their ideas and use the support of LEAP to refine their designs. In LEAP programs, participants are encouraged to examine their beliefs and ethics and think critically about how they can change their community.

There are all sorts of helpful ways for people to get involved in LEAP Africa. Those who have learned from LEAP before can join an alumni network, where they have the chance to mentor other young people or provide advice to those interested in following their path. LEAP always welcome donations that can be used to fund programs and support those who are working directly with the African people. LEAP Africa also has plenty of great volunteer options for those interested in leading programs and offering aid.
